Star Chefs In the Western Culinary Sky, Here’s What’s Rising and Shining. by John Mariani
The sun may still rise in the east, but these days in American gastronomy many of the brightest stars are rising in the west. From Texas to Taos, from Denver to San Diego, young chefs have taken up residence in kitchens that are distinguished by them, not by some celebrity chef who merely lends his name and photograph to an enterprise.
In many cases, hotels have been in the vanguard of this movement to encourage up-and-coming culinary talent. In other cases, chefs who made their rep in other people’s restaurants have now opened their own and are showing their full range and true personality. Who will be the most talked about in the near future? Here are my picks for the firmament—the stars shining brightest in the Western culinary constellation.
